Infusion and Procedures Advanced Practice Provider
Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's & Neurodegenerative Diseases, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine.
The Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's & Neurodegenerative Diseases (Biggs Institute) at the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider ideally with training in anti‑amyloid infusion therapies, lumbar punctures, and minor procedures. The provider will also provide coverage for rare emergencies in linked PET and MRI imaging suites. A background in behavioral, geriatric, dementia, vascular, or movement disorders is required.
The specialist faculty position will be in the Center for Brain Health.
We are seeking an advanced practice provider, either a PA or an NP, interested in combining creative, comprehensive, compassionate clinical care for a broad range of memory and cognitive disorders as part of a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neuropsychologists, nurses, social workers, geriatricians, geriatric psychiatrists, therapists, counselors, and care managers. Providers with experience caring for persons with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, or other neurological specialties, are particularly welcome.
The day‑to‑day workflow will include working with a case manager, a team of 3–4 infusion nurses, and behavioral neurology faculty to enroll, monitor, and administer anti‑amyloid treatments. Currently over 120 persons are on these therapies, and will transition in a few months to our 12‑bed infusion facility, shared with the Department of Neurology. The selected person will also be part of ongoing and new clinical trials and may be asked to join the team for assessment and overseeing administration of investigational products, working with a full clinical trials team.
The person will be asked to perform clinical and research lumbar punctures (suitable training using atraumatic needles will be provided) and to serve as stand‑by during working hours for any emergencies in the first two floors of the Center for Brain Health that include imaging, research assessment, therapy services, and community activity areas.
The Biggs Institute, led by founding Director Dr. Sudha Seshadri, is a flagship institute within the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine with the mission of establishing an interdisciplinary, integrated program to provide comprehensive clinical care and undertake innovative and important research into the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions, including vascular contributions to dementia, Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and frontotemporal dementia.
There are excellent opportunities for career growth and advancement on trajectories focused on increasing clinical opportunities, research, leadership, and education, and inter‑professional training.
