Job Description University of Texas Health San Antonio, School of Dentistry
The Center for Pain Therapeutics and Addiction Research (CPTAR) The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, School Dentistry, is seeking applications for a full‑time position of a tenure track/tenured faculty (Assistant, Associate or Professor level) to join the newly established Center for Pain Therapeutics and Addiction Research. The faculty position will be housed within the center, and the academic department will be determined based on the specialty of the selected candidate from one of the following:
Comprehensive Dentistry, Developmental Dentistry, Endodontics, Periodontics, or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Ph.D., D.D.S./Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in neuroscience or related biomedical sciences
- Strong publication record in Pain Therapeutics and/or Addiction Research
- Experience in interdisciplinary, collaborative environments
- Independent NIH‑funded research program that complements CPTAR
- Collaborate actively with existing faculty and interact with staff and students across the university.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams to translate research findings.
- Contribute to the School’s mission through research, clinical practice (if applicable), and teaching in the DDS/Ph.D. Program and/or graduate level courses as appropriate and in alignment with the candidate’s expertise.
- Function as an active member of both the School of Dentistry and The University of Texas Health Science Center.
The Pain research group at UTHSCSA’s School of Dentistry has a rich history of over 20 years, consistently generating substantial research funding, including over $36 M from federal and private sources in the past decade. This group has now evolved with the establishment of CPTAR, comprising 8‑10 highly accomplished scientists/clinicians that study various aspects of pain research.

- Clinical Research and Faculty Practice facilities, including UTHSCSA Medical School, University Hospital, Dental Clinical Facility, UTH Medical Arts and Research Center, and the new Multispecialty and Research Hospital.
