OverviewThe Certified Medical Assistant will utilize their expertise to contribute to both clinical and administrative operations. They will assist with patient care and participate in procedures under the direction of a licensed Independent Provider (LIP) to support clinic efficiency and quality patient care.
Responsibilities- Clinical Duties
- Patient preparation and assistance: take vital signs, record medical histories, provide reassurance, and prepare exam rooms and instruments.
- Independent clinical tasks: perform venipuncture or capillary draws, administer injections and vaccines, assist with minor procedures, and administer medications per LIP orders within the MA scope of practice.
- Wound care and routine tasks: clean, dress, and bandage superficial wounds; conduct CLIA-waived tests; perform regular quality control for lab results and equipment.
- Sterilization and infection control: label, handle, and transport specimens; maintain aseptic techniques; sterilize instruments and disinfect rooms; use PPE; dispose of biohazardous waste per protocol.
- Emergency response: provide basic first aid and assist with medical emergencies per BLS standards; demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Age-specific and pediatric care: provide age-appropriate care, measure vital signs, assist pediatricians, administer vaccines per schedules, and ensure readiness of pediatric emergency equipment.
- Administrative Duties
- Medical record management: enter data, file documents, manage electronic health records (EHR); safeguard confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Office support: answer phones, manage supplies and inventory; assist with billing, coding, and insurance claims; perform pre-visit planning.
- Follow-up and documentation: respond to inquiries, document urgent care follow-ups, report communicable diseases, and coordinate referrals and pre-op clearances.
- Patient scheduling and coordination: schedule appointments, verify details, assist with urgent care follow-ups, and coordinate lab specimen transmission.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
- One (1+) year of experience in the healthcare field.
- Active CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – American Heart Association (AHA).
- Communication: strong verbal and written communication with patients and staff.
- Organizational skills: manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail, teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
- Flexibility to rotate shifts, weekends, and holidays; typical full-time hours with potential evenings or weekends depending on the schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 2+ years CMA experience preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- English is required.
- This position does not require travel.
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, repetitive movement, and lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion; ability to perform procedures and manage a fast-paced environment.
- Environment: medical office/clinic setting with potential exposure to healthcare-related hazards; use of PPE as necessary.
