Physical Therapy Assistant - PRN DAYS
The PTA performs patient treatments as indicated by the treatment plan. Documents treatments given, including frequent and objective measurements. Works with adult patients with clinical competency. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION: Associates Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant. Active U.S. military service members or veterans with any military service, training or education verified and credited by an accredited PTA program is acceptable.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: No previous work experience needed.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
:
Previous PTA experience in inpatient/outpatient settings
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State license
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: See Preferred Certification Listing
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.

ResponsibilitiesGeneral Functions
- Performs selected tests and measurements in consultation with the therapist
- Interprets the evaluation for frequently referred diagnosis, asks questions when necessary and seeks guidance concerning more complex situations
- Reviews patient charts and progress prior to treatment and modifies the treatment accordingly within parameters of the treatment plan
- Instructs and involves patient, family, and nursing staff in patient’s progress and discharge plans, makes appropriate discharge recommendations to the therapist and attends appropriate meetings
- Uses appropriate modalities and procedures, demonstrates understanding of the therapist’s selection and asks for clarification as necessary
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrating knowledge of principles of growth and development over the lifespan
- Maintains documentation on all treatments
- Assures appropriate equipment performance prior to each use
- Provides in-service to staff
- Organizes schedule to reflect patient priorities and needs of other staff
- Delegates responsibility to supportive personnel appropriately
- Provides clinical education for PTA students, after 1 years of experience
- Informs supervisor of incidents, accidents, equipment failure or unusual physician or patient
