We seek a Program Manager to lead the Outreach, Retention, and Engagement core (OREC) at the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). ) at the University of Texas Health San Antonio (UTHSA). This position will work as part of the NIA-funded South Texas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (STAC) and with the Carinos en su Casa program & Care-Ecosystem program.
We are looking for an exceptional candidate with an interest in clinical and community-based participatory research to join a collaborative team of clinicians, community health workers/promotores, epidemiologists, and statisticians.
The selected candidate will report directly to the Director of the Biggs Institute, Dr. Sudha Seshadri, and work under the supervision of the leaders of the OREC Core, Drs. Patel at the LSOM, Dr. Epps at the School of Nursing. Their task will include building and coordinating a seamless collaboration with teams at Laredo and at UTRGV (with Dr. Gladys Maestre).
The Program Manager is expected to oversee and coordinate the work needed to initiate and conduct this research program, ensure adherence to Institutional Review board guidelines, and report progress to NIH. They are expected to help establish systems that increase support for patients and families at home and within the community as part of the STAC. The OREC program manager will help expand our impact in 2 target groups: (1) Hispanics in underserved South San Antonio (2) African-American communities of faith.
They will also collaborate and provide support to the community through (1) Care Ecosystem, (2) Caring for the Caregiver, and (3) Carinos en su Casa. Lastly, the OREC program manager will lead efforts to deliver care to underserved groups in Bexar County, expanding their health care knowledge and access, especially addressing families impacted by dementia and dementia related caregiving needs in zip codes severely affected by COVID.
They will work to understand how to help them with their health needs and how to improve their access to health care and research relevant to their challenges.
Work to oversee the completion of the OREC core aims across UTHSA and coordinating with team at UTRGV and Laredo.
Work with our marketing team to keep STAC/Biggs website updated and to generate and maintain community outreach material in English and Spanish. They will also help update on the progress of different studies via a newsletter.
Work on retention activities for all clinical and population neuroscience core studies and liaise with community engagement needs of all cores.
Work with the clinical and population neuroscience core on the return of results to participants including
1) dissemination of research results and
2)
Feedback from participants regarding how results were received.
Work to enroll and study families in 2 underserved counties in San Antonio and in our African American communities of faith, connecting with and understanding the needs of 20 families where one person was affected by sequelae of COVID or by dementia.
Work to select, prioritize, and arrange outreach and community engagement activities. Community outreach efforts will be undertaken as quarterly events rotating across several senior centers, public libraries, clinics, community centers including community theatre and music groups.
Build and liaise with a Community Advisory Board for Hispanic Needs and Perspectives.
Write and lead papers and grants relating to SDoH in collaboration with Data Management and Statistics Core.
Track outreach activities and generate reports for ADRC grant renewal and RPPR.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
QualificationsBilingual English-Spanish fluency and prior experience in community outreach and engagement, community-based participatory research, or mixed methods research is strongly preferred.
This position requires drive, team spirit, generosity, superb inter-personal and management skills, a passion to make a difference as part of a cutting-edge research team, judgement and excellent spoken and written communication skills.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree degree; experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience is required.
