Athletic Trainer

UIW Mission

Position Summary

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing quality athletic training services primarily to their assigned student-athletes and supports other staff members with athletic training for all student-athletes at the University of the Incarnate Word. The Athletic Trainer reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the NATA Code of Professional Practice.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with other departments and student athletes.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree from a CAATE-accredited Athletic Training program.

Required Work Experience
  • No experience required with Master’s Degree by date of assignment.
  • Two (2) years of professional athletic training experience if holding a Bachelor's Degree.
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree from a CAATE-accredited Athletic Training program or affiliated field.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
  • BOC Certified, Texas licensure or eligible.
  • Must have a valid driver license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.
Work Hours

Typical hours Mon‑Fri 8 am to 5 pm with flexibility, based on schedule of assigned sport. Hours will include some nights and weekends as appropriate.

Physical Demands
  • Requires lifting of 50 lb of equipment as well as lift‑assist of injured athletes.
  • Dexterity to perform typical trainer functions including the administration of emergency care when necessary.
  • Ability to effectively move about to appropriately demonstrate weight training exercises to build appropriate strength and muscle sets, as well as assist as appropriate during games.
  • Exposure to extreme weather.
