The RoleWe are seeking a SME‑level Data Engineer to support the ingestion of mission‑critical and mission‑support data sets into a big data environment. This role is pivotal in supporting cyber and network‑related missions within military spaces. As a senior member of the team, you will focus on software infrastructure for big‑data‑scaled ingestion – including understanding new data sources, implementing testing, and establishing monitoring.
Additionally, you will lead the department in achieving strategic goals, ensuring data integrity, and fostering a collaborative, innovative work environment.
- Experience:
At least 14 years of experience in Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or Database Engineering. (+4 additional years of relevant experience can substitute for a BS degree). - Technical Core:
Fluency in data extraction, custom translation development, and loading (ETL). Signficant experience with Java (including unit/integration testing), Python, and SQL. - Big Data Tools:
Expertise in Apache NiFi (administration and troubleshooting) and data flow solutions like Kafka and AWS S3/SQS. - Infrastructure & Dev Ops:
Proficiency with Linux OS (BASH), Maven, Git Lab, and YAML for schema configuration. Experience with Kubernetes and Docker is a plus. - Certification:
Must be certified DoD IAT II or higher (Sec+, etc). - Mission Knowledge:
Familiarity with cyber/network security operations and various log formats (JSON, XML). - Soft Skills:
Ability to lead a department, decompose complex technical problems, and work effectively in Agile environments.
