The role of Data Center Technician is responsible for supporting various aspects of the data center ecosystem with an integrated focus on providing resiliency, redundancy and high availability of critical infrastructure supporting core operations. This position will work collaboratively within internal and external stakeholders, suppliers, and partners to ensure data center operations are aligned with defined requirements.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- IT Infrastructure Systems
- Data Center Operations
- Provide support for new installation and migration of equipment; to include, IT hardware, cables, power distribution, and other ancillary components
- Conduct necessary maintenance and upgrade of systems requiring changes to infrastructure components
- Diagnose, repair, replace and/or escort vendors in support of hardware failures and remediation activities
- Decommission legacy hardware and complete required reconciliation processes
- Maintain/Install Support infrastructure. (Cable trays, PDU’s, Air handlers, etc.)
- Documentation of Data Centers and infrastructure
- DCIM installation and upkeep
- Document all new systems
- Document removal of all old systems
- Document any changes or modifications
- Stock labelers, tape and other documentation equipment.
- Follow/enforce Safety standards
- Make sure Safety labeling is done where needed.
- Put out safety barriers when needed
- Maintenance of support services in the Data Centers
- Respond to normal and high severity incidents
- Work with Facilities to do maintenance on service hardware and keep the inspections up to date.
- Air handling hardware

- Fire suppression hardware
- Electrical (PDU & UPS)
- HVAC
- Labeling
- all hardware and cabling in the Data Centers

- Data Center as a Service (DCaaS)
- Organize and perform Escorts of visitors.
- Vendor work on Computer hardware
- Vendor work on Facilities hardware
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Has held the position of DC Ops Technician 1 for at least two years or have previous experience working in a Data Center environment (minimum 2 years).
- Follow and create written procedures
- Ability to perform complex troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution development and implementation
- Have a solid understanding of network infrastructure components and applications
- Must have a working understanding of TCP/IP networking
- Have a solid understanding of host security (passwords, file permissions, file system integrity, security packages) and network security concepts
- Be able to follow backup/recovery procedures and disaster recovery procedures.
- Have the ability to work with people from various disciplines with varying degrees of technical skills in a professional manner.
- Pass a security background check as prescribed by NERC.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude while adapting to quickly changing demands.
- Ability to work with little to no direct supervision.
- Have tool and equipment responsibility
- Demonstrate proficiency in creating, records input and closing Service Requests *
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to perform new hardware installation and setup under minimal supervision *
- Demonstrate the ability to perform routine maintenance of the Data Centers and surrounding facilities *
- Demonstrated the skills necessary to perform decommissioning and proper disposal of hardware under minimal supervision *
- Possess a basic understanding of all the hardware in the DC and surrounding facilities, explanation of their operation, what purpose they serve and how they relate to each other and external operations *
- Demonstrate the ability to read building/room diagrams, update and maintain them.
