Duties
* Administers the day-to-day database operation and maintenance in a complex client server.
* Ensures the database efficiently collects, stores, and processes large volumes of data.
* Develops and maintains security procedures to guard against unauthorized intrusions.
* Prepares technical papers, plans, studies, and other written materials as required.
* Serves as a technical expert performing feasibility studies which involved application of emerging technology to resolve unique user requirements.
* Coordinates and reviews customer requirements.
* Analyzes project synopsis to compare alternatives in terms of cost, time, and required equipment and staff.
* Performs physical database design for Structured Query Language (SQL) databases.
* Provides high-level technical expertise to accomplish analysis of options and development of the design for advanced database systems software and complex programming specifications.
* Provides consultation and instruction to functional area users and the application programming community. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
* One-year probationary period may be required.
* This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5-25% of the time. Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes analyzing system guidelines to streamline daily operations; building online data summaries based on specific business requests; managing data dashboards utilized by employees across the department; and extracting data for leadership resource decisions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined: * (1) Attention to Detail

Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include completing thorough and accurate work independently, even in the most difficult or stressful situations; occasionally reviewing work completed by others. * (2) Customer Service
