Custodian - Substitute
The Custodian ensures that students and staff are provided with a safe, attractive, and clean working and learning environment. Additionally, the Custodian is committed to Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustees' policies regarding equity, human rights, and cross-cultural understanding and reports to the Facilities Coordinator or their designee.
This position is listed as a substitute. The majority of shifts available would be 2:30 pm–11:00 pm on an as‑needed basis.

Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience working in a related field in an education setting preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Positive attitude and ability to get along well with others
- Ability to multi‑task and prioritize work
- Ability to work well as part of a team

Roles and ResponsibilitiesWhile actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the Custodian will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the Director of Campus Facilities may also assign other tasks they deem appropriate.
- Keep building, sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times. Shovel and sand walkways and steps during inclement weather as needed.
- Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are accessible and functioning properly during building occupancy hours.
- Sweep and clean classroom floors, corridors, and stairs thoroughly on a daily basis. Use floor and carpet cleaning machinery as needed.
- Clean eating areas as assigned, including regularly sweeping floors, wiping and disinfecting tables, and taking out the trash.
- Respond to emergency custodial requests as required, including answering emergency alarm calls after hours as assigned.
- Clean and disinfect bathrooms daily, including toilets, sanitary fixtures, bathroom floor, and sink. Use bathroom cleaning machinery as directed. Use appropriate signage to warn others about potential safety hazards, such as wet‑floor signs.
- Clean and sanitize water fountains daily.
- Keep school grounds free from trash and rubbish and take out trash from outside bins as directed.
- Complete daily checklist for assigned tasks at the end of each shift and use checklist to communicate with next shift on any tasks that may need to be addressed.
- Operate lawn equipment to maintain landscaping of property as directed.
- Operate all machinery safely. Follow instructions and safety protocols to properly and safely operate machinery. Report damage to machinery or repairs needed to Director of Campus Facilities.
- Report major repairs and/or damage to the Director of Campus Facilities promptly.
- Report immediately to the Director of Campus Facilities and Principal any damage to school property.
- Observe and promote safe work practices and procedures at all times.
- Adhere to proper cleaning methods, storage, and proper care of school equipment and supplies and complete appropriate checklist.
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity as needed.
- Remain on school premises as requested and necessary when the use of the building has been authorized and extended work hours have been approved and be able to work flexible shift assignments as needed.
- Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building when assigned and ensure that all doors and windows are secured, lights are turned off and alarm system is turned on before leaving the premises.
- Move furniture and equipment as directed by District Leader/Principal/Director of Campus Facilities.
