Overview

The Safety Manager is responsible for continued guidance and enforcement of Catamount’s health and safety plan. Through project site visits and coordinating training sessions, the Safety Manager takes an active role in protecting employees of Catamount and our trade partners. The Safety Manager will take part in the continuous improvement and required modifications to the health and safety plan to ensure completeness, appropriateness and adherence of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).

Responsibilities
  • Safety Program Management
  • Ensure projects are properly setup and supported to execute the safety program
  • Conduct project site audits to review records, permits, field conditions, safe work practices, and assess employee knowledge of safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure site operations team is completing all their responsibilities including holding orientations, completing AHAs/JSAs, completing site inspections, keeping safety program up to date, holding safety meetings and maintaining a culture of safety amongst the field staff
  • Ensure corporate programs and standards are executed
  • Lead safety business plan efforts coordinated with Safety Director for division
  • Prepare reports and plan for upcoming focus
  • Promote and own the safety program
  • Take part in Mock-Ups as available to ensure crews understand requirements for their scopes of work
  • Host training sessions as needed
  • Coordinate efforts with the Safety Committee
  • Participate in committees for safety, employee health and wellness
  • Create and host safety training programs
  • Serve as a resource for employees; voice opinions on areas of improvement needed, and make suggestions and dictate corrections with a “team” approach
  • Coordinate efforts to include individuals on job-sites that do not speak English
  • Coordinate with Safety Director, third party safety company for inspections, trainings, and other duties as deemed necessary
  • Proactively go to projects to assess and work with the teams to improve safety culture
  • Create and promote a standard schedule rotation to ensure sites are being visited regularly, so team is aware of availability
  • Site visits to include: overall score of projects from outside the fence line; check in at trailer, review site safety plan, required postings, audit Safety Inspections, and discuss upcoming work
  • Walk site with Field team (as available), record findings and address with workers/field team. Identify unmitigated hazards and discuss remedy to correct. Items of serious nature are to be reported immediately to FPX/Director of Operations/Division President
  • Conduct any site orientations for upcoming workers
  • Review AHAs + HSAs
  • Review corrective action assigned by Field teams (write-ups, dismissals from the project, etc.)
  • Majority of time should be spent on the projects
  • Incident Management: report to sites when incidents occur, take control of situation and provide guidance to onsite teams for proper incident investigations; conduct root cause analysis for all incidents including injuries, near misses and property damage; lead team through OSHA investigations
  • All incident investigations are to be sent to the Safety Review for review
Supervisory responsibilities:

The Safety Manager oversees all safety efforts and initiatives on site and can direct compliance of all personnel.

Competencies
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures is essential
  • Reasoning Ability:
    The Safety Manager will be required to evaluate information and analyze problems logically to develop solutions on a constant basis.
Work environment

Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job at the work site, the employee will be required to wear a hard hat, safety vest, eye protection, hearing protection and appropriate clothing and footwear. The employee could be exposed to moderate to extreme weather and environmental conditions.

The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to extreme.
