The James Allen Companies Inc. is partnering with BITCO Corporation
, a leading provider of specialized insurance solutions, to identify a Liability Claims Manager for its San Antonio branch office. With a strong national presence and 11 branch offices across 10 states, BITCO delivers tailored insurance programs for specialized industries including construction, forest products, and oil and gas.
This role offers a hybrid schedule and includes required business travel to BITCO office locations and customer offices.
Position SummaryThe Liability Claims Manager will lead the day-to-day operations of a branch-based claims team. This leader will oversee workflow distribution, coaching and development, quality control, and timely, accurate claim resolution. The role is hands‑on and highly collaborative, ensuring consistent service standards, strong team performance, and compliance with company procedures and jurisdictional requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesDirect and supervise a claims team, ensuring high‑quality, timely, and consistent claim handling.
Review and evaluate contractual documents for risk transfer opportunities and exposures (including indemnity and additional insured considerations).
Interpret policy terms, conditions, exclusions, and endorsements to address coverage and liability issues.
Oversee reserving practices, ensuring reserves are accurate, timely, and reflective of potential exposure.
Guide claim investigations by securing statements, records, and other key documentation.
Ensure thorough documentation and reporting of claim handling activities.
Support negotiation, settlement, and resolution strategy, including appropriate release and resolution documentation.
Maintain knowledge of regulatory and jurisdictional requirements and ensure compliance across territories.
Direct and manage independent adjusters and other third‑party resources when utilized.
Partner with Claims Management on staffing, performance management, evaluations, and salary administration for direct reports.
Participate with Underwriting leadership in annual business planning, including objectives aligned with branch sales and profit goals.
Provide ongoing training and development for the local claims team.
Contribute input to branch budgeting processes as needed.
Serve as a visible leader who promotes BITCO’s mission, values, and culture.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will bring the following experience and strengths:
10+ years of claims experience including:
Commercial General Liability
Commercial Auto
Commercial Property / Inland Marine
Construction Defect and general casualty
Oil and gas claims
Multi‑jurisdiction claim handling exposure
Strong capability in complex coverage evaluation and direction.
Proven expertise in claims administration
, including loss analysis, reporting, reserving, compliance, laws, and procedures across multiple jurisdictions.Demonstrated success in claim settlement strategy and guiding staff on coverage communications, releases, and proof of loss statements.
5+ years of people leadership experience managing a claims team.
Strong understanding of contractual indemnity and additional insured issues.
Professional designations such as CPCU
, AIC
, or similar are preferred.Service‑oriented, customer‑focused approach supporting agents, policyholders, and internal partners.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized, deadline‑driven, and able to manage competing priorities.
Comfortable leveraging claims technology and overseeing team utilization of claims systems and standard office equipment.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Office‑based environment with a hybrid schedule, as directed by management.
Requires extended periods of sitting and computer use.
Occasional lifting up to 15 pounds and routine mobility (bending, kneeling, reaching, walking).
Must be able to perform effectively both in‑person and virtually.
Some overnight travel required.
