Job SummaryKickstart your career in manufacturing! As a Manufacturing Engineering Technician I with Caterpillar, you will improve quality, velocity, safety, and cost by aiding the engineering department in the post assembly of our diesel engines in the form of data analysis, investigation, problem solving, and process validation. Work alongside experienced engineers to ensure production runs smoothly and safely in a fast-paced environment.
What you will do:- Provide technical support through data analysis, problem solving, and Caterpillar Production Systems (CPS)
- Assist and provide support to process improvement teams
- Assist and provide feedback to team leaders including action plan follow up, use of 6 Sigma and lean manufacturing methodology and use of CPS
- Identify and track key metrics related to assigned department or function
- Assist with process improvement opportunities, continuous review of plant operations to keep team focused on key priorities and improvement objectives
- Monitor and follow up process improvement initiatives to ensure improvements are sustained
- Perform audits to ensure materials, processes, and tools conform to quality standards
- Assist with the resolution of CPS Continuous Improvement cards (CI Cards)
- Follow standard operating procedures and area specific work instructions
- Provide information to supervisors and managers about processes within assigned area
- Lead and facilitate small business team activities within assigned work area
- Investigate and resolve manufacturing engineering related line calls
- Lead, investigate, and resolve CI cards issued to manufacturing engineering
- Lead, investigate, and resolve Manufacturing Engineering BIQ defects and other quality improvement initiatives, such as CCN, CIA and CAR
- Participate and support Engineering for Standard Work, SFMEA and PFMEA activities
- Represent manufacturing engineering at Small Business Team and Go-&-See meetings
- Edit work instructions for assembly as directed by the manufacturing engineers
- Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience or a 2-year degree in lieu of experience
- Experience reading blueprints and reviewing 3D models
- Experience in machining processes, and best practices, test processes and validation to manufacture products
- Experience with basic inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, depth gages)
- Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Intermediate level proficiency using ERP/PLM systems such as PLEX, Teamcenter, and MAMM system
- Familiarity using data collection systems such as Quality WorX and Tools Talk
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Experience with Six Sigma/Lean as either a contributing team member or possessing a Green Belt Certification
- Experience in quality control within a metal or alloy manufacturing facility
- Experience in a leadership type role (team lead, project lead, lean lead)
- Ability to be a self-starter and the aptitude to learn
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to perform repetitive operations
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
