Position: Sanitation Manager - 1st Shift (Relocation Assistance Available)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will oversee sanitation activities and two crews of employees in a food manufacturing environment including equipment cleaning during scheduled line downtime, execution of Master Sanitation program, 24/7 facilities cleaning, pest control, and plant regulatory and food safety compliance programs for sanitation.

Responsibilities
  • Directly manage sanitation activities to ensure compliance to Sanitation Procedures and regulatory requirements (USDA/FDA) within the plant.
  • Meet our strategic needs by being involved in cross-functional teams within the plant to lead sanitation knowledge and improvement.
  • Determine resources and provide technical guidance, training, and leadership to sanitation personnel.
  • Advise senior management on effectiveness of routine plant sanitation and cleaning programs.
  • Lead plants during special plant sanitation issues including microbiological and environmental control.
  • Ensure plant follow up of Pathogen Environmental programs to detect and eliminate sources of contamination.
  • Provide sanitary design recommendations for our equipment and modification/installation of existing/new equipment.
  • Creates Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures and owns implementation of new/revised cleaning processes.
  • Ensure all Sanitation documentation is being filled out correctly and effectively. Oversee upkeep/revision of all Sanitation department procedures and documents.
  • Represent Sanitation department in all engineering projects to ensure sanitary design aspects of the project and review/approve project for compliance with sanitary design goals.
  • Maintain cost-effective programs and practices within the plant sanitation program.
  • Manage Sanitation Department budget
  • Manage technical training for plant sanitation employees and auditors.
  • Attend technical meetings to update knowledge in advances in sanitation and pest control.
  • Conduct internal sanitation and pest control audits.
  • Represent Sanitation Department during regulatory and food safety related plant audits.
  • Provide recommendations for equipment and machinery-based change (new equipment, retrofits or design modifications of existing equipment and sanitary design reviews).
  • Work with Maintenance department and equipment vendors to ensure that new equipment meets sanitary design and regulatory design requirements before installation.
  • Validates that equipment modifications or new equipment can be cleaned and sanitized to a microbial level.
  • Implement and maintain company Sanitation Procedures within the plant.
  • Work with preferred pest management vendors during their service visits to the facility as needed.
  • Work with external sanitation vendors to improve sanitation performance and costs.
  • Use process metrics and experience to prevent problems that could affect product quality and safety.
  • Investigate sanitation issues, which are resulting in product contamination, reduced shelf-life, or customer rejection of products.
  • Aid in the identification of root cause and corrective actions. Reliable and regular transportation and attendance.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years experience in food manufacturing experience in sanitation leadership roles.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable FDA, USDA, and HACCP requirements.
  • PCQI Certified, preferred
  • Experience with sanitary design, sanitation and pest management in food processing.
  • Experience leading and building teams
  • Experience with microbiological organisms and their impact on process design, sanitary design and sanitation.
Skills & Abilities
  • A working knowledge of food technology, food science, microbiology or chemistry preferred.
  • Understanding of pathogens and other food contaminants.
  • Understanding of modes of control of various sanitation chemicals and physical cleaning.
  • Communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
  • Prior experience with government regulatory requirements in the processing of food.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to work in a facility that processes food allergens.
Working Environment & Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to fingers; handle; and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision;
