Join the Johnson Controls team as a Fitter Welder Apprentice at our San Antonio, TX plant. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands‑on experience in the manufacturing industry. You will work under the guidance of experienced professionals while developing essential skills in fit up, fabrication, and welding.
What You Will DoYou will be responsible for the local delivery and execution of the fit up, fabrication and core welding to vendors and managers in accordance with Johnson Controls principles, corporate policies and procedures, and plant operations. You will perform a variety of employment related functions for the ultimate purpose of enhancing employee engagement, safety and health, productivity and ensuring employee compliance with Company policies in a manufacturing facility.
HowYou Will Do It
- Apply a minimum of 6 months of MIG welding experience to product.
- Operate Miller Aluma Pro Mig gun and apply fit up, fabrication, and weld discipline into standard models.
- Use manual and semi‑automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as GMAW and Plasma Cutter.
- Operate manual and semi‑automatic flame‑cutting equipment.
- Maintain safe work practices.
- Conduct technical inspections.
- Prepare input for various management and log reports.
- Read and review blueprints and specifications; ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed.
- Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair/rework techniques.
- Complete motor coupling installations.
- Participate in training program as trainee/trainer as required.
- Practice and promote 5S throughout facility.
- Participate in Kaizen events.
- Other assigned work as required.
- Have successfully passed 2G plate welding test and 6G short arc pipe welding test within Johnson Controls - San Antonio.
- Use various hand tools, machinery and equipment to manufacture metal.
- Standard blueprint knowledge.
- Work with supervisors and leadman to ensure continuous improvements in work cells, hitting quotas, and welding according to pre‑set parameters using GMAW processes.
- Ability to scan in and out of work orders is a must.
- Proven knowledge and skill in operating all metalworking machinery.
- Ability to read and understand production drawings, blueprints, work orders and other written instructions.
- Minimum of 6 months of MIG Alloy and Steel welding experience.
- Follow Operation Description Sheet (ODS) and Training Documents.
- High School Diploma, GED or certifications.
