HSE Specialist
S&B is currently seeking an HSE Specialist who can provide safety auditing and inspection services on S & B construction projects under the direction of the HSE Manager.

Education:
High school education or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications and
Experience:
- On the job training serving as learner or trainee under the instruction of a qualified worker.
- Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations and Industry Safety Best Practices.
- Prefer EMT-B but will consider ECA certified.
Typical
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reports to HSE Supervisor and/or the HSE Manager.
- Assists field employees in achieving Zero Accidents.
- Monitors work activities in all areas of job site and corrects unsafe acts or conditions.
- Stops work activity, only if an eminent danger situation exists, to have problems corrected.
- Reports safety violations, near miss, incident, and accidents throughout the duration of the project. These are to be turned into the HSE Supervisor at the end of the shift.
- Conducts safety orientation with new employees and subcontractors.
- Conducts hole/fire watch training when necessary.
- Gas tests for confined space entry.
- Maintains documents as needed and required.
- Approximately 90% of time will be spent in the field auditing and inspecting.
- Occasionally an employee performs housekeeping duties to maintain and enhance the appearance of the building and grounds to provide a safe work area.
- Occasionally, the employee may be required to switch activities and be flexible with alteration in other areas based on the needs of the company as requested by the HSE Supervisor or HSE Manager.
- The employee will notify their supervisor immediately when there is a breach of safety to personnel and/or equipment because of unsafe behaviors or defective equipment.
- Knowledgeable of all safety related codes, i.e., disaster drill, emergency plan.
- Demonstrates safe work habits and does not create hazardous situations within the work environment.
- May be required to wear proper clothing: gloves, slicker suit, rubber footwear, hearing protection, respiratory protection, safety glasses or goggles, hard hat and steel toe shoes.
- Must be punctual in arriving for scheduled work time. Any changes in schedule must be approved by supervisor.
- Breach of any company policy will be grounds for disciplinary action or termination of employment.

Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of organization.
- Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one setting to fellow employees.
- Apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to act in a manner that would convey a congenial work environment - avoiding anger, belligerence, harassment, violence, nonchalance, controversy, or any other "unreasonable" activity considered by management to be counter-productive or adversarial to employee relations.
Mathematical
Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
