Chemical Engineer
For 50 years, San Antonio Shoemakers, a San Antonio, Texas based company, has developed a reputation as a premier American manufacturer of high quality footwear. SAS has an opening for a Chemical Engineer who specializes in EVA rubber, S , TPU, PEBA and/or polyurethane (PU) formulations.
Job Description:
- Optimize PU resin/foam formulations to meet target specifications as well as help design and optimize EVA foam compounds.
- Lead trials of new formulations throughout the design and development process all the way to efficient manufacturing.
- Evaluate new raw materials, additives, fillers, etc., to improve product performance and reduce costs.
- Evaluate and modify processing methods including compounding, extrusion, injection molding, and curing/foaming processes.
- Troubleshoot issues related to material performance and equipment issues in manufacturing.
- Formulate bonding agents, adhesives, and coatings to ensure structural integrity.
- Conduct physical and chemical property testing on materials.
- Ensure all processes comply with international safety and environmental regulations.
- Support continuous improvement of plant operations and productions workflows.
- Manage and oversee trial runs throughout manufacturing process.
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- Associates degree or Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in rubber/polymer compounding, specifically with EVA, S , PEBA and PU, ideally within footwear, automotive, or industrial manufacturing
- Familiarity with material testing methods (tensile strength, hardness, etc.)
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, domestically and internationally
- Experience working with product development teams
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in retail management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
