Job Summary
The Transformer Assembler Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks, including cutting and measuring paper to exact specifications as per job orders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Verify new assembly instructions/drawings to ensure the transformer is installed correctly.
- Safely disassemble/reassemble transformers and evaluate the quality of parts.
- Able to follow instruction and work order processes.
- Work under pressure and adapt to the day‑to‑day operation of an open shop environment.
- Perform other duties that support the business as needed.
- Communicate issues in mechanical assembly or system products to the supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with safety and housekeeping practices, company policies, and procedures.
- Perform work in one or more of the following work centers: tank‑up, casing, small parts, vacuum chamber, cover bander, palletizing, final assembly.
- Attach/install component parts and sub‑assemblies to transformer tanks (e.g., leads, bushings, brackets, fuses, switches, nameplates, arrestors, labels, stencils, bands, etc.).
- Place and anchor core/coil assemblies into tanks.
- Perform various hand assembly, fitting, and adjusting operations of a repetitive nature.
- Retrieve, assemble, and attach covers.
- Load, operate, and unload vacuum system.
- Use punch press and small power hand tools as required.
- Touch‑up paint on tanks when needed.
- Rework non‑conforming parts and products.
- Excel in interpreting detail alignment units using jigs and fixtures, and inspecting complete components to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Perform testing and QA checks, prepare and package components for the shipping department.
- Perform QA checks on cable/harness assemblies such as continuity tests, dimensions, and labels.
- Perform other operations as directed.
- Must be able to read and comprehend verbal and written materials associated with the job and perform basic math functions.
- Must be mechanically inclined and have at least one year of experience in a mechanical, fabrication, or assembly role, or a similar position such as automotive mechanic, brake technician, oil/lube technician, etc.
- Steel‑toe shoes or boots.
- Basic tools (Phillips and flat‑head screwdriver, ratchet set, wrenches).
- Safety glasses will be provided.
- Often work outdoors; may also work indoors. Exposure to sounds or noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
- Sometimes exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures when working outdoors or indoors.
- Sometimes exposed to contaminants such as fumes from paints or sealers.
- Requires operating hand tools, machinery, manual dexterity, communication, hearing, and repetitive motion.
- Exert force up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, handle, reach outward, reach above shoulder, crawl, squat/kneel, bend, push, and pull frequently. Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on a work surface.
- Ability to use upper and lower extremities to move or transport 25 to 50 pounds, including pressing against something to force it in a forward, downward, or outward position or dragging/hauling 25 to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist and bending the legs at the knees and moving extremities in any direction.
- Ability to withstand physical demands on the body, including being in a stationary and/or standing position most of the day.
- Ability to express and exchange ideas by means of speech, including where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral or written instructions or other information.
