Material Handler
The material handler physically receives and ships packages and orders into and out of the warehouse. This position requires the operation of a forklift, and other tools as needed. They perform the required duties to quality and productivity standards. To ensure all activities are handled in accordance with Finlays Solutions' mission, business philosophy, ethics, and goals.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Physically receiving all incoming packages and orders as well as preparing and shipping outgoing packages.
- Verifying quantities ordered match quantities shipped on packing slips and noting discrepancies, checking shipments for damages.
- Operating the forklift and wrapping machine as needed.
- Determining labeling requirements for shipping containers including any special labels required by the customer.
- Preparing documents and recording receipts in a timely manner.
- Moving materials from production to finished goods area, and from receiving dock to storage areas.
- Ability to use an RF scanning device to move inventory.
- Understanding of inventory location processes and food safety requirements.
- Familiarity with loading trailers and safety of loading trailers.
Qualifications and requirements include:
- Forklift certification: preferred, forklift experience preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills along with strong ability to multitask.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to interact with customers and team members.
- Ability to work effectively with peers, management, and other departments.
- Computer literacy and RF scanners.
Physical demands include:
- Ability to work beyond regularly scheduled hours during peak periods or critical operations.
- Must possess adequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills to meet essential job performance and safety standards.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, and using hands for detailed tasks.
- Physically capable of performing tasks such as lifting, climbing, and using hand and power tools, including pallet jacks, scales, ladders, and standard material handling and cleaning equipment.
- Capable of safely lifting up to 50 pounds frequently throughout the day; ability to handle heavier items with proper lifting equipment or team-assisted techniques to ensure safety.
Work environment may involve exposure to odors, dust, moderate noise levels, and fluctuations in temperature and ventilation. Work environment may involve exposure to inclement weather. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.
