Job Description & How to Apply Below

Alt-Bionics, Inc. | San Antonio, TX | Full-time, on-site (daily, at HQ)

About the Role

Millions of people worldwide live with limb loss, and most advanced prosthetic hands cost more than a car. Alt-Bionics exists to change that. We build capable, durable, serviceable, and affordable robotic hands here in San Antonio, Texas, restoring function for people who need it while strengthening American advanced manufacturing at a moment when the world is racing toward robotics. The same hands that help those living with limb loss regain independence in their lives also power the next generation of humanoid robots, and every one of them is assembled right here in San Antonio, Texas!

Our Assembly & Service Technician owns the full lifecycle of our robotic hand products, Surge and Genesis, at our headquarters: building new units, processing RMAs, performing repairs and in-house modifications, and feeding what you learn back to engineering so the product gets better with every unit that crosses your bench.

Success in this role looks like units that pass our rigorous in-house quality testing across fleets. RMAs turned around quickly with clear root-cause documentation, and a steady stream of feedback that engineering can act on. You'll report to our manufacturing lead and work within a small assembly team that sits a few feet from the engineers designing the product. In a company our size, this role directly determines whether devices ship on time and perform in the field, for both the people wearing our prosthetic hands and the robotics customers integrating our end effectors.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble robotic hand units and subassemblies to specification, including fine mechanical and electronic components
  • Perform functional and quality testing on completed units prior to shipment
  • Perform in-house modifications and upgrades to existing units per engineering direction
  • Identify recurring failure modes and design pain points, and communicate actionable feedback to the engineering team for product and process improvements
  • Maintain accurate build records, travelers, service logs, and inventory counts
  • Keep workstations, tooling, and shared production areas organized and production-ready
  • Own the RMA process end to end: intake, diagnosis, repair, testing, documentation, and return to customer
Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience assembling and repairing small mechanical or electromechanical devices (medical devices, consumer electronics, robotics, or comparable precision work)
  • Proficiency with hand tools, soldering, torque drivers, and reading assembly drawings or work instructions
  • Strong diagnostic ability: comfortable tracing a failure to root cause, not just swapping parts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including clear service documentation and the confidence to tell an engineer what isn't working
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting
  • Ability to work on-site at our San Antonio HQ every workday
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Preferred: experience with RMA workflows, QA documentation, 3D printed parts, overmolded components, or fine soldering

We will be individually reviewing each applicant, so please read carefully!
