Job SummaryThe Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling custom and prototype transformers in an industrial production environment. Working as part of a team of approximately 6–10 employees and reporting directly to the Production Manager, this position performs mechanical assembly using hand and power tools while following established production procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
This is a hands-on, physically active position performed primarily in an outdoor/open-shop environment. Employees must be prepared to work in changing weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, as well as a dusty and dirty industrial environment.
The position generally works a standard day shift; however, overtime may be required based on production demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Assemble custom and prototype transformers according to established specifications, procedures, and production requirements.
- Perform mechanical assembly and installation of transformer components and related materials.
- Safely operate a variety of hand tools, including wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, and similar equipment.
- Safely operate power tools and other production equipment required for transformer assembly.
- Read and follow work instructions, assembly procedures, specifications, and supervisor directions.
- Measure, position, align, secure, and install components accurately.
- Inspect components and completed work for proper fit, alignment, workmanship, and overall quality.
- Identify damaged, defective, incorrect, or missing components and report concerns to supervision.
- Follow established quality-control procedures throughout the assembly process.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and inspections of tools and equipment.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe and proper working condition.
- Handle, organize, and maintain materials and inventory needed for production.
- Move materials, parts, tools, and equipment to designated production areas as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and remove debris and unnecessary materials that could create safety hazards.
- Work collaboratively with a production team of approximately 6–10 employees to meet daily production requirements.
- Communicate effectively with team members, leads, supervisors, and management regarding production or quality concerns.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and required PPE standards.
- Maintain productivity and quality while working within established production schedules.
- Work overtime when required to meet production demands.
- Perform additional assembly, production, material-handling, or related duties as assigned.
- Must meet any client-specific background check, drug screening, identification, or site-access requirements.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Previous experience in assembly, manufacturing, production, mechanical work, construction, industrial labor, or a similar hands-on environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn transformer assembly procedures.
- Ability to safely operate common hand tools.
- Ability to safely use power tools and production equipment after appropriate training.
- Ability to follow detailed assembly procedures and established production processes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability and willingness to work in an outdoor/open-shop environment with exposure to heat, cold, dust, dirt, and changing weather conditions.
- Ability to follow all safety rules and wear required PPE.
- Ability to work overtime when required by production needs.
- 3+ years of previous assembly experience, preferably in manufacturing, transformer production, electrical equipment, industrial equipment, or a related environment.
- Experience with mechanical assembly.
- Strong proficiency using hand and power tools.
