Job Summary

The Associate Vice President for Enterprise Communications and Strategic Messaging is a senior communications leader responsible for directing complex enterprise-wide communications strategies, internal communications governance structures, messaging frameworks, and organizational communications systems that support the mission and strategic priorities of The University of Texas at San Antonio. The Associate Vice President serves as a strategic advisor and enterprise leader responsible for ensuring alignment of communications across the university, supporting organizational transformation and integration initiatives, strengthening executive and institutional messaging, and building a scalable communications infrastructure.

This position owns the development of enterprise communications governance, internal communications architecture, organizational change communications, and long-term strategic communications planning processes that support a highly distributed communications model spanning academic, research, clinical, and administrative operations. The role will guide the establishment of collaborative structures, standards, and communication systems that improve coordination, alignment, efficiency, and effectiveness across colleges, schools, centers, institutes, administrative units, and the academic health enterprise.

A key responsibility of the position is ensuring communications alignment between the university and UT Health San Antonio, overseeing enterprise-wide communications, executive messaging, and strategic priorities are coordinated effectively across both entities while recognizing their unique audiences, missions, and operational requirements.

Core Responsibilities
  • Develops and leads the execution of an enterprise communications strategy that advances institutional priorities, supports long-term strategic goals, and strengthens the university's reputation.
  • Establishes and leads an Enterprise Communications Collaborative/Council to foster alignment, coordination, and shared planning among the distributed communications infrastructure and communications professionals across the institution.
  • Creates and oversees communications governance frameworks, standards, policies, and processes that support effective enterprise-wide communication planning and execution.
  • Directs the development of enterprise messaging frameworks that align institutional priorities, executive communications, and strategic initiatives across the university.
  • Serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on communications strategies impacting multiple internal and external stakeholder groups and organizational priorities.
  • Advises executive leaders, communications teams, and the President's Office on institutional communications alignment for major initiatives and announcements, ensuring consistency with enterprise messaging frameworks, standards and strategic priorities.
