Summary of Responsibilities
  • Prepares grant proposals by performing research and being familiarized with our organization's programs, goals and financial needs.
  • Search for potential funding sources.
  • Grant writer must also keep careful records to track their proposals. Responsible for writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects and for submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant funded projects.
Essential Functions
  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation, corporate sources and other sources.
  • Research and identifies new government, corporate, foundations and private funding prospects.
  • Perform prospective research on foundations and corporations to identify and evaluate opportunities for corporate and foundation grants.
  • Generates proposals and supporting documents in response to RFPs (request for proposals) and other types of solicitations.
  • Generates revenue through timely submission of well-researched, well written and well-documented grant/fund-raising proposals.
  • Writes reports to government, corporate, foundations and other funders as required.
  • Work with accounting to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.
  • Understanding of institutional history and programs.
  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.
  • Ensure that the flow of funds permits SITUSA to make continuous progress towards the achievement of its mission.
  • Expands and diversifies strategies to identify, educate, involve, cultivate and steward both existing and prospective donors.
  • Conducts visits and other high-level interactions with donor prospects, documenting actions as appropriate.
  • Build a diverse and inclusive Local Advisory, representative of the community, highly engaged and willing to leverage and secure resources for the attainment of our mission.
  • Position Requirements

    A. Knowledge / Skills / Experience
    • 1. Minimum of two years of Grant writing experience with non-profit fundraising.
    • 3. Ability to monitor and meet revenue goals.
    • 4. Excellent grammar and strong research skills.
    • 5. Teamwork and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
    • 7. Excellent writing and documenting skills.
    • 8. Knowledge of: methods, principles, and techniques associated with managing, planning, developing, budgeting and delivering of public outreach and educational programs; principles of public speaking; adept with computer equipment and software applications related to assignment, spelling and grammar.
    • 9. Ability to: lead and design projects from concept development through creative execution; meet deadlines and adapt to a fast-paced environment; prioritize and complete tasks in a systematic and focused manner; pay attention to details; effectively network and maintain positive relationships within the organization and with outside entities; work effectively and collaborate with teams; mediate and resolve conflicts between external and internal parties;
    • 10. Ability to operate computer equipment and software applications related to assignment specifically Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • 11. Must have ability to travel, often within the community, and work nights and weekends.
    • 12. Ability to positively influence others.
    • 13. Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
    • 16. Ability to meet deadlines.
    • 17. Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
    • 18. Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
