Overview
The Life Group Pastor has the privilege of cultivating authentic, biblical community and shepherding people as they take meaningful steps in discipleship within Westover’s mission to Follow Jesus and Love People. This role provides spiritual and strategic oversight of the Life Group ministry by developing, guiding, and sustaining a healthy, life-giving network of groups that foster connection, growth, and care. The Life Group Pastor equips and supports group leaders, oversees Life Group strategy and pathways, and helps create environments where individuals can belong, grow, and serve through Christian community.
By building, equipping, and caring for teams of leaders, this role helps ensure relational connection, spiritual formation, and pastoral care are extended throughout the congregation, so that every person has the opportunity to be known, supported, and discipled.
- Champion and energize Westover culture and vision to Life Group leaders, hosts, and participants.
- Lead the development, health, and expansion of Life Groups for adults of all ages, life stages, and backgrounds.
- Recruit, train, and empower Life Group leaders by providing ongoing coaching, spiritual encouragement, and practical tools for successful group leadership.
- Establish clear pathways for connection to ensure new members, guests, and existing attendees can easily find a Life Group that fits their needs.
- Oversee the assimilation process of individuals into Life Groups and collaborate with Connections, Pastoral Care, and other ministries to ensure smooth transitions into community.
- Build a strong leadership pipeline by identifying emerging leaders and providing spiritual and leadership development opportunities.
- Create, implement and/or approve group curriculum strategies
, seasonal studies, and leader resources in alignment with the church’s discipleship goals. - Track ministry data and key performance indicators to assess Life Group participation, growth, group health, and leadership development.
- Provide pastoral care and support to group leaders and members as needed, including biblical guidance, crisis care, hospital visits, weddings, funerals, and related duties.
- Collaborate with other ministries to help integrate Life Groups into church-wide initiatives, spiritual emphasis seasons, and outreach opportunities.
- Ensure leaders are spiritually grounded and practically equipped to shepherd their groups effectively.
- Manage the Life Group Ministry budget and honor established financial parameters.
- Oversee weekend responsibilities related to community engagement, leader support, and connection follow-up.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the reasonable scope of the position.

2. Build and Multiply LeadershipRecruit and empower a growing team of Life Group leaders who use their gifts to shepherd, teach, and disciple people in their spiritual journey.
3. Integrate Ministry Church-WideCollaborate across departments to help Life Groups participate meaningfully in church-wide outreach, discipleship efforts, and ministry initiatives.
Qualifications- A confirmed call of God to pastoral ministry and discipleship.
- Demonstrates consistent biblical study, prayer, and a life surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
- Spiritually mature, emotionally intelligent, and pastorally compassionate.
- Able to relate genuinely to people from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Skilled in giving and receiving feedback with humility and grace; able to navigate conflict biblically.
- Personally supports and champions Westover’s culture and mission of Follow Jesus, Love People.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and willing/able to learn new software and ministry platforms.
- Demonstrates strategic thinking, team building skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
