Nurse Manager - Residential Treatment Center

Under the Direction of the Medical Director and Executive Director, the Nurse Manager will be responsible for supervision of the medical staff, ensuring daily operations of the nursing/medical department, and maintenance of quality patient care in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and San Antonio Recovery Centers policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions
  • Facilitates staffing of medical department including, but not limited to, hiring, disciplinary action, and employee dismissal
  • Directs and develops medical department staff by creating schedules, offering advice, and answering health‑related questions
  • Assumes managerial duties for performance evaluations and provides regular feedback and evaluation of employees
  • Provides new employee medical training and regular, ongoing employee training of medical department and care coordinators
  • Works closely with Directors of Clinical, Case Management, Housing, and Business Development departments to coordinate and maintain positive client care
  • Assists Executive Director in daily program operation
  • Recognizes and assists in solving nursing/medical department and administrative problems
  • Performs new client medical intake process and nursing assessments
  • Provides nursing to ensure that Physician’s orders are enacted in a timely fashion – usually within 24 hours of being written
  • Promotes and restores clients’ health by developing day‑to‑day management and long‑term planning of client care
  • Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff for client care
  • Liaises with outside agencies to facilitate treatment process
  • Assesses client health for referrals to Internal Medicine, specialty healthcare providers, laboratory services, imaging services, Urgent Care, Emergency Services, and higher levels of care
  • Monitors client medications, treatment, and therapies for quality assurance, compliance, and therapeutic effect
  • Reviews client medications, controlled substance logs, inventory, and medication refills on a daily basis
  • Performs inventory of client medications, OTC and PRN medications, emergency supplies, and other medical supplies weekly and orders supplies as required to ensure stock
  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly audits in medical department and off‑site recovery residences in collaboration with other medical staff members
  • Works within State of Texas Board of Nursing Scope of Practice
  • Ensures Medical Services compliance with Federal and state regulations
  • Maintains accurate records
  • Participates in Treatment Teams, Department Head and General Staff meetings
  • Conducts performance improvement activities and prepares monthly reports
  • Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned
  • Participates in in‑service training and continuing education as necessary or required to safely and effectively perform job
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the State of Texas
  • Current BLS certification
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills, organizational skills, and detail‑oriented
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of EHR, ePrescribe software, Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Prior experience in substance abuse or mental health treatment preferred
  • Ability to assess client’s physical/emotional condition in a short period of time
  • Accuracy of record keeping, e.g., maintaining client charts and narcotic inventory
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Leadership ability, especially in case of medical emergencies
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
  • Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards
  • Skill in performing clinical and medical procedures
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise
  • Understanding of HIPAA, Federal, State & CARF standards & regulations
  • Fundamental knowledge of professional nursing principles, techniques, basic addiction medicine science, and of community health and welfare resources
