Job Summary
As a Cardiovascular ICU Registered Nurse, your voice to influence patient care is valued and empowered at every turn – whether through open, collaborative relationships with your direct manager or through formal opportunities with hospital councils and national nursing initiatives. You will help shape decisions that elevate patient outcomes and the future of nursing.
About the Unit- Two combined units of 57 beds caring for patients with critical heart conditions
- Patients include those who have had recent cardiac emergencies or undergone heart surgery such as transplant or bypass
- Comprehensive orientation process and experienced staff provide education in the specialty
- State‑of‑the‑art technology in patient care
- Multidisciplinary rounds with the interdisciplinary team to identify safe and efficient critical management for high acuity acute care
- Apply nursing judgment through a systematic nursing process
- Assessment:
Conduct comprehensive, timely, and ongoing physical, psycho‑social, and pain assessments, including patient education needs - Planning:
Identify problems, formulate nursing diagnoses, set goals, create teaching plans, and incorporate family into the plan of care - Implementation:
Prioritize and execute a competent, efficient nursing plan - Evaluation/Reassessment:
Conduct timely evaluations, anticipate changes, adjust the plan as necessary, and compare expected and achieved outcomes
- Assessment:
- Collaborate with the patient care team on care plans, communicate timely and effectively with physicians and other members through verbal, written, or electronic communication, and use hand‑off and SBAR methods
- Demonstrate critical thinking, scientific judgment, and organizational skills; prioritize tasks, maintain flow, recognize and report errors, analyze contributing factors, and initiate corrective action when appropriate
- Make accurate, complete, and timely entries into the patient medical record covering all steps of the nursing process; actively communicate with team members, patients, and families
- Maintain current nursing knowledge to ensure a safe working environment; apply all policies and procedures related to safety, quality core measures, infection prevention, fall prevention, medication administration safety, hourly rounding, and AIDET principles
- Graduate of an accredited diploma, associate, or baccalaureate RN program
- Minimum of six (6) months of clinical experience as a licensed Registered Nurse
- One (1) year of ICU/acute critical care experience or two to three (2‑3) years in any acute specialty (highly preferred)
- Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or a Multi‑State Compact License (compact license holders must obtain a Texas RN license within 90 days)
- Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
