The Family Nurse Practitioner reports to the Director of Family Medicine regarding administrative, provider relations and other day‑to‑day guidance. Assigned to a supervising physician under the Texas Medical Board for medical consults and abides by appropriate clinical protocols. Provides quality, comprehensive out‑patient primary health‑care services to the Center’s Family Medicine patients of all ages.

• Examines, diagnoses, treats and/or refers patients assigned to the physician’s panel on an out‑patient basis. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions consulting with supervising physician.
• Maintains a problem‑oriented health record for each patient in accordance with the Center’s established Health Informatic Management policies and procedures, ensuring encounters are closed within 24 hours.
• Assures continuity of care by providing medical services on a timely basis as per clinic schedule within the Center’s scope of practice and the Nurse Practitioner’s training.
• Refers patients for appropriate specialty care services, laboratory and radiology, and any other ancillary services as needed, consulting with supervising physician.
• Reviews all lab and radiology reports for patients under his/her care on a timely basis and makes medical‑management decisions appropriately.
• Maintains appropriate productivity standards and efficient patient flow while minimizing schedule changes and absences.
• Provides excellent internal and external customer service via telephone, fax or face‑to‑face contact to assist patients with their health‑care needs.
• Trains and mentors medical students and clinical support staff engaged in activities and procedures, as appropriate.
• Follows established departmental and clinic policies, procedures, and objectives, including continuous quality‑improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection‑control standards.
• Participates in specified health‑promotion, education, and/or prevention programs as needed (e.g., diabetes collaborative/health fairs); attends and participates in clinic meetings, departmental meetings, and other clinic functions.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Master’s Degree from an accredited university in a Nurse Practitioner Program.
• Board Certified AANP, ANCC, or related certification required.

• Current unrestricted license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner from the Texas Board of Nursing.
• Annual continuing medical education as required by board specialty.
• Registered with and holding a current DEA number.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association.
• Scheduled hours and/or work locations are subject to change.

• Finger Dexterity:
  Typing or picking up small objects; normal fine and gross motor control of fingers and hands.
• Talking:
  Frequently conveying detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, clearly, or quickly.
• Hearing:
  Able to hear average or normal conversations; hear whispered voice at five feet.
• Repetitive Motions:
  Frequently and regularly using wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Visual:
  Visual acuity necessary for proper evaluation of a patient and for preparing or inspecting documents; ability to view computer monitors accurately.
• Physical:
  Sitting 20–30% of time and standing, walking 70–80% of time; lift up to 25 lbs; push and pull up to 45 lbs; bend at waist, twist and turn along axial plane.
