The Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse works under the direction of a qualified professional nurse, participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care within the department’s objectives, standards, and policies, and collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team including medical staff, administration, clinicians, dietitians, and milieu personnel. The role ensures high client safety standards and a therapeutic environment.

• Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of clients under the supervision of a registered professional nurse, maintaining client safety and following unit and facility policies and procedures.
• Assists in health and psychiatric teaching for clients and families, serving as a role model.
• Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans.
• Effectively communicates with medical staff, receives verbal and written orders, and minimizes errors.
• Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas among team members.
• Prepares, administers, controls, and accurately records medications in accordance with policy, documenting administration and any adverse effects.
• Observes, documents, and reports to the RN in charge any clinical, physical, unit, personnel, or other issues that could alter client care.
• Reports status changes and concerns to registered nurses and doctors, ensuring total quality client care.
• Consults, follows, and documents nursing care according to facility policy and procedures, recording client symptoms, responses, and progress accurately and completely.
• Safely and accurately performs vital signs, electrocardiograms, phlebotomy/labs, and diabetic/glucose monitoring, interpreting results and taking appropriate nursing action.
• Provides coverage in emergency services as needed.

• Graduation from an approved Licensed Practical/Vocational Nursing Program required.
• One or more years of nursing experience within a clinical area of service provided by the facility preferred.
• Knowledge of and experience with psychotropic medications and medication administration procedures.
• Ability to apply nursing standards and practice within a recovery setting.
• Valid current practical/vocational nursing license from the state or from a nurse compact state, where applicable.
• CPR and de‑escalation certification required (training available on hire).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
