Position: LVN Charge Nurse FT New Hire Sign-On Bonus: $3000

LVN Charge Nurse

Responsible for providing nursing care to residents as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with standards of nursing practices, regulations, and directed by the Director of Nursing. The Charge Nurse will lead or direct licensed and non-professional staff in the delivery of direct resident care and support functions.

Essential functions include:

  • Providing the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients in the unit
  • Making nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees
  • Maintaining acceptable standards of patient care
  • Identifying problems and guiding personnel to their solution
  • Creating a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel
  • Accurately and promptly implementing physicians' orders
  • Supporting and enforcing infection-control policies and procedures
  • Using the system to convey/receive resident information
  • Maintaining a professional approach with confidentiality
  • Cooperating and maintaining good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors
  • Obtaining and documenting nursing history from the patient and/or significant other that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems
  • Performing basic assessment of the patient, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology
  • Recording vital signs, noting changes, and pursuing more-specific investigation as needed
  • Assessing for and notifying physician and other appropriate parties of changes in condition
  • Using assessment information to develop a care plan before the end of duty time that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient
  • Using care plans as a basis for providing safe and therapeutic care to patients
  • Consistently following established standards, policies, and procedures in providing nursing care
  • Accepting accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of nonprofessional personnel
  • Communicating with the patient and his or her family and other members of the health care team in carrying out the goals of the care plan
  • Performing competently those technical skills considered basic to the type of care given in that unit
  • Responding appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations
  • Supporting standards of nursing care through adherence to existing policies and procedures
  • Seeking guidance when encountering nursing procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered
  • Promoting positive public relations with patients, residents, family members, and guests
  • Using tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations
  • Using appropriate workplace behavior and adhering to dress code at all times
  • Understanding and adhering to the guidelines of "Residents Rights" and assuring resident safety

Qualifications:

  • Current LVN license
  • CPR certified required; 30 days will be given to complete a course and get certified
  • Ability to understand, remember, and carry out verbal or written instructions in English
  • Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability to be flexible and positive with intermittent interruptions

Preferred:

  • 2 years nursing experience in long term care/skilled nursing

Physical requirements include the ability to safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, and reaching up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.

Work schedule is as assigned, including some weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Work environment is clinical.
