Registered Nurse RN PreOp Phase II

Methodist Hospital, part of SA Health, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Pre Op and Phase II team within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. As a key member of our perioperative care unit, you will care for patients preparing for surgery and recovering in the Phase II post-anesthesia setting. In this role, you will perform comprehensive preoperative assessments, verify consents, review medical histories, medications, and diagnostic results, and communicate pertinent information to surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the clinical team.

You will prepare patients for surgery by initiating IV lines, administering ordered medications, completing safety checklists, and providing clear education about the surgical experience. In Phase II, you will monitor patients following anesthesia as they transition toward discharge, closely assessing vital signs, pain and nausea levels, respiratory and cardiovascular status, and overall readiness for discharge using established criteria.

Working in our supportive and inclusive culture, you will collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, PACU staff, and ancillary departments to ensure safe, timely patient flow and an excellent patient and family experience. You will provide thorough patient and family teaching regarding postoperative care, medications, wound care, activity restrictions, and follow-up instructions, ensuring that patients are prepared for a safe recovery  will respond promptly to changes in patient condition, initiate appropriate interventions, and elevate concerns as needed, consistently applying evidence-based practice and hospital policies.

Accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record, adherence to infection prevention and surgical safety protocols, and active participation in handoffs and team huddles will be essential aspects of the role.
