Overview
Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) is responsible for supporting the daily operations of Bio Life Plasma Services’ Plasma Donation Centers. The role reports to the Plasma Center Manager and works under the guidance of the Center Physician for medical issues. The position requires strong clinical knowledge, adherence to industry regulations, and a commitment to customer service and quality.
Responsibilities- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, personal self‑exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance criteria, physical examination, blood testing, and review of serologic protein electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions, following standard operating procedures (SOPs) for medical emergencies and coordinating with the Center Physician for standing orders and transfer to emergency care.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs on unacceptable findings, medical or technical issues, and donor safety and eligibility concerns.
- Support employee HepatitisB and seasonal flu vaccination programs as required.
- Manage employee incidents, determining further evaluation by occupational health/ER and consulting EHS guidance for incident handling.
- Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, supporting investigations of pandemic threats within local community.
- High school diploma or equivalent; or graduate‑level nursing program with state requirements.
- Current state license or certification as an EMT‑Paramedic and certification in CPR and AED.
- Basic IV therapy certification required by state of licensure.
- Completion of FDA‑approved training for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- At least two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
Hourly wage range: $24.32 – $33.44 (subject to qualifications, experience, and local wage laws). Selected candidates may also receive short‑term incentives, 401(k) with company match, medical, dental, vision insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time, company holidays, wellness benefits, sick time (up to 80 hours per calendar year), and paid vacation (up to 120 hours for new hires).
