Certified Nursing Assistant Position Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is assigned to a designated Innova Recovery Center treatment location and is responsible for supporting the daily medication administration program under the direction of the nursing department. This role assists with medication management, client health monitoring, medical documentation, and other nursing-related responsibilities within the CNA scope of practice.

The CNA may provide temporary nursing support at other Innova Recovery Center locations during planned nurse absences or staffing needs. When medication administration responsibilities are complete, the CNA functions as a Direct Care Technician (DCT), providing client supervision, program support, transportation, and other direct care services to promote continuity of care and daily program operations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Manage the daily medication administration program at the assigned treatment location.

Administer medications within the CNA scope of practice under the direction of the licensed nurse.

Maintain accurate Medication Administration Records (MAR) and related medical documentation.

Receive, inventory, organize, and secure client medications.

Complete medication counts and maintains medication accountability.

Monitor medication inventory and communicate refill needs or medication concerns to the licensed nurse.

Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, pain assessments, and other assigned clinical observations.

Observe clients for changes in physical or mental condition and promptly report concerns to the licensed nurse.

Assist with nursing assessments by collecting client information and completing assigned documentation.

Assist with coordinating psychiatric appointments, laboratory services, and other medical appointments.

Assist with client admissions and discharges, including medication inventory, medication reconciliation, medication release, and client education as assigned.

Facilitate nursing, medication management, wellness, and other health-related educational groups as assigned.

Complete assigned medication audits, medical audits, and quality assurance activities.

Maintain the medication room in a clean, organized, safe, and secure manner.

Assist with infection prevention practices and maintain appropriate cleanliness of clinical areas.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).Provide temporary nursing support during planned nurse absences, vacations, or staffing needs while working within the CNA scope of practice.

Perform Direct Care Technician (DCT) responsibilities, including client supervision, transportation, documentation, group support, and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment when medication administration responsibilities are complete.

Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and required staff meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Education High school diploma or GED required.

Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the State of Texas.

Current CPR certification required.

Experience Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.

Experience working in a behavioral health, psychiatric, substance use treatment, residential, or hospital setting preferred.

Experience with medication administration preferred.

Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel between Innova Recovery Center locations as required.

Competencies Knowledge of basic nursing care principles and medication administration practices within the CNA scope of practice.

Ability to accurately obtain and document vital signs and clinical observations.

Knowledge of medication safety, infection prevention, and client confidentiality.

Ability to recognize changes in client condition and communicate concerns appropriately.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with nursing, medical, clinical, and operations staff.

Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced treatment environment.

Ability to maintain professionalism, sound judgment, and appropriate client boundaries.
