Summary:

Vighter is recruiting Operating Room Registered Nurses (OR RNs) to provide exceptional patient care in the various operating rooms at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. The RN provides the full range of nursing services within the scope of practice for a variety of patient-centered specialties and ensures that all JCO standards for care are met during performance of patient care.

RNs provide complex and comprehensive professional nursing services within the professional scope of practice for a variety of diagnoses for patients of all ages.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Provide complex and comprehensive nursing care for all surgical patients.
  • Prepare the operating room and verify necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments.
  • Perform preoperative assessments and verify patient identity, procedure, consent, allergies, and surgical site.
  • Provide and maintain a safe, sterile environment during surgery.
  • Serve as a scrub nurse when assigned, maintaining the sterile field and handling surgical instruments.
  • Assist with patient positioning and prevent pressure injuries.
  • Perform surgical counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and other supplies.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to orders and facility policies.
  • Monitor the patient's condition and respond to changes or emergencies.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and proper handling.
  • Participate in surgical safety/time-out procedures.
  • Provide postoperative handoff and communicate patient information to the recovery team.
  • Follow infection-control, sterile-technique, OSHA, and patient-safety standards. Operate and monitor specialized equipment including, but not limited to portable dialysis machines, oxygen, hypothermia units, and various types of suction apparatus, infusion equipment, and patient-controlled analgesia pumps (PCA), epidural pumps, sequential compression devices, hemodynamic catheters, monitors, and ventilators, cardio-respiratory monitors and vital sign monitors.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Maintain highest regard for patient dignity, observe precepts of the AHA's Patient’s Bill of Rights.
  • Services shall be provided by established standards, principles and professional ethics, applicable professional specialty organizations and the high standard for which Vighter is recognized.
