TheOperational Mandate
Our Client - one of the largest and most sophisticated integrated healthcare networks globally - has retained Global Recruiters of Buckhead to identify an elite Director of Emergency Department (RN) for their 378-bed acute care facility in San Antonio, TX. Operating as an executive clinical leader reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, you will drive strategic, clinical, and fiscal governance over a 29-bed Level IV Trauma and Accredited Chest Pain Center handling 50,000 annual visits (136/day) within an acute facility operating at 85-90% capacity.
TheTactical Scope
- Expansion & Operational Command: Direct clinical operations across 29 ER beds, leading long-range operational and clinical readiness planning for an upcoming multi-bed emergency department expansion.
- Culture & Multidisciplinary Leadership: Lead a 100-person team—including 2 direct-report Clinical Nurse Managers, Clinical Nurse Coordinators (CNCs), RNs, and EMS Techs - sustaining an elite 83% employee engagement benchmark.
- High-Acuity Clinical Excellence: Champion evidence-based protocols across a high-volume Accredited Chest Pain Center and Level IV Trauma Center, maintaining division-leading sepsis outcomes and patient experience ratings.
- Capacity & Throughput Synchronization: Partner across inpatient acute units to optimize admission, transfer, and discharge velocity in a hospital maintaining 85-90% daily capacity.
- Physician & EMS Strategic Alignment: Collaborate closely with emergency medicine physicians, on-call surgical specialists, and regional EMS providers to drive community outreach and clinical intake efficiency.
- Fiscal Stewardship: Own departmental budgeting, labor management, position control, supply chain utilization, and capital forecasting with full administrative backing.
- Education & Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or a valid Multi-State Compact license required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required;
Master's Degree preferred. - Clinical Foundation: Direct Emergency Department nursing experience required, with established clinical mastery across acute patient triage, trauma management, and resuscitation protocols.
- Leadership Track Record: Minimum of one (1) year of inpatient acute hospital nursing leadership experience required; three (3) or more years of progressive healthcare leadership experience preferred. Open to current Directors, Associate Directors, Senior Managers, or experienced ED Managers with significant operational scope.
- Operational & Fiscal Depth: Demonstrated competence in departmental budgeting, labor/staffing models, physician relationship management, and clinical quality/throughput improvement.
- Strategic Execution: Decisive leader capable of orchestrating complex staffing matrices, driving labor efficiencies, and cultivating high-morale clinical teams.
