Position: QUALITY TECHNICIAN - SR. QUALITY TECHNICIAN - Institute Quality Systems

Overview

Who We Are The Institute Calibration Laboratory is an element of the Institute Quality Systems department. We are available to support the Institute Divisions, service departments, and commercial clients. The mission of the Institute Calibration Laboratory is to provide quality calibration and repair service. By joining our team, you will receive an additional $500 in your first paycheck, minus taxes.

Role

Objectives of this Role:

  • The purpose of this role is to support SWRI measurement and test equipment (M&TE) for all Divisions and departments. This is accomplished through the calibration of pressure, vacuum, flow, dimensional, torque, mass, temperature, humidity, electrical and frequency MT&E.
  • The calibration of SWRI measurement and test equipment provides accurate, repeatable, and traceable testing results for SWRI Divisions.
  • The calibration of SWRI measurement and test equipment provides traceability and proper documentation for the various SWRI quality programs to be accredited to international quality standards, such as ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and adjust measurement and test equipment in one or more of the following disciplines - pressure, vacuum, flow, dimensional, torque, mass, temperature, humidity, electrical and frequency or radiation measurement to ensure compliance with published requirements.
  • Calibrate and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory working standards and equipment.
  • Participate in inter-laboratory comparisons, round robins and proficiency testing.
  • Collect, compile, summarize, record and analyze data gathered during calibration in order to calculate measurement uncertainty, identify out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective action. Complete documentation to support laboratory accreditation as required.
  • Provide assistance regarding metrology issues to scientific and engineering staff.
  • Assist in both internal and external audits.
  • Perform "in-place" calibrations at locations within the Institute campus.
  • Perform laboratory housekeeping and administration.
Requirements
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Courses or certifications related to metrology, calibration, electronics, physics, mathematics, statistics are helpful.
  • 3+ years:
    Calibration of mechanical, dimensional, thermodynamics, electrical, or frequency test equipment.
  • 3 years:
    Quality requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540, or related standard.
  • 3 years:
    Calculation of measurement uncertainty or accuracy ratio.
  • Training/certificates in metrology/calibration by military, state, national or accreditation body programs are preferred.
  • A valid/clear driver s license is required.
