Quality Technician – Food Handling and Inspection

This role focuses on ensuring product quality and food safety through visual inspection, temperature checks, and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a cold, refrigerated production environment. You will perform routine quality checks on food products, document inspection results, and support production teams in maintaining consistent quality standards across all shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspections of food products to verify quality, appearance, and compliance with established standards.
  • Conduct temperature checks on food items and equipment, ensuring they meet required safety and quality specifications.
  • Follow written procedures and guidelines to carry out inspections and quality control activities accurately and consistently.
  • Document all inspections, quality checks, and findings in the appropriate logs or systems in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Identify non-conforming products or processes and promptly report issues to leadership for corrective action.
  • Support basic inventory activities related to inspected products and materials as needed.
  • Apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) while working in production areas to maintain cleanliness and food safety.
  • Collaborate with production staff to address quality concerns and help maintain smooth operations.
  • Multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple inspection and documentation tasks during the shift.
  • Participate in hands-on training with leads to learn inspection methods, quality standards, and facility procedures.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience working with food, such as in a restaurant (cook, expo, server, etc.) or in food manufacturing.
  • Experience checking temperatures and performing visual inspections on food products or equipment.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail when performing quality inspections and documenting results.
  • Ability to identify non-conforming products or conditions and report them appropriately.
  • Basic inventory experience in a food or production environment.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Comfort working in a cold, refrigerated indoor facility.
  • Understanding of basic quality control and quality assurance concepts.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a food handling or production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food manufacturing inspection, even at a low level, is preferred.
  • Previous experience in production environments with routine quality checks is beneficial.
  • Experience documenting inspections and quality-related information in logs or digital systems.
  • Ability to work various shifts and weekends, including extended workweeks.
  • Willingness to participate in extensive, hands-on training with leads and supervisors.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $24.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
