Salary Range:
Up to $59,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary
The Hermann Laboratory at UT San Antonio investigates male germ cell biology, stem cells, development of the testis and ongoing spermatogenesis in adult males, which has relevance to male infertility and contraception. The person who occupies this Research Science Associate IV will serve as a senior technical staff member and laboratory manager.
The Research Science Associate IV assists in the planning and direction of a unit engaged in research and to perform advanced engineering or scientific duties requiring special qualifications or attainments with a wide latitude for independent action and decision. This position leads, conducts or assists with the dissemination of knowledge through scholarship, scientific inquiry and creative expression.
Core Responsibilities
- Day-to-day oversight of the laboratory’s research mouse colony, including breeding activities, genotyping, colony preservation, routine treatments/manipulations, and coordination with other lab members to meet research needs.
- Coordination of laboratory supply/material inventory, ordering and organization.
- Assists in the development and design of plans for research experiments and projects.
- Prepares specifications and develops techniques. Prepares project proposals.
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of research projects including devising new approaches to problems encountered; conducts operations security reviews; and prepares progress reports.
- Oversees the supervision and training of student employees, interns, and volunteers; oversees staff using established procedures; and leads research teams in advanced multi-year research activities.
- Assists key members of research staff in solving specific problems encountered in project.
- Assumes responsibility for acceptance or rejection of results achieved.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in biology or a related field.
- One (1) year of related work experience.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in biology or a related field.
- Practical experience with laboratory mouse manipulation, surgery and/or colony management.
- Independent coordination of research projects.
- Preparation of research results for publication.
- Supervision and/or mentorship of staff and/or students.
- Experience with routine biostatistics and familiarity with statistical software packages.
- Knowledge of male reproduction, germ cell biology, spermatogenesis, stem cells and/or development and regeneration.
- Experience with routine molecular biology approaches including nucleic acid isolation and analysis, PCR, and gel electrophoresis.
