Position Summary:
Responsible for assignments that require the technical knowledge to modify or adapt routine procedures under the direction of a supervisor to meet special research requirements. Work involves a basic understanding of engineering or scientific methods for research, design, or experimental testing.
Salary Range: $17.75/hour

This is a grant‑funded position dependent on the availability of funds and/or departmental need.
Core Responsibilities- Collects and compiles data, computes quantities, extends estimates, and records observations/measurements; conducts standard archaeological fieldwork, monitoring, shovel testing, survey, and test excavations.
- Maintains daily logs of observations, photographs, and notes.
- Sets up and operates equipment as directed by the supervisor and assists in equipment design.
- Conducts basic lab tasks such as washing, counting, cataloging artifacts, and assists in maintaining and cleaning field laboratory equipment.
- Inventories supplies and equipment.
- Writes simple computer programs and prepares technical reports.
- Proactively assists coworkers in various tasks to ensure safety and recommends safety improvements.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, vocational training, or apprenticeship in a related field.
- At least one year of related work experience.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
- Bachelor's degree in anthropology, history, or a closely related field.
- Basic research equipment handling.
- Strong communication skills.
- Compliance with safety and institutional policies.
- Statistical analysis capabilities.
- Primarily outdoor field work; may involve hazardous equipment or materials.
- Travel to meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events as required.
- Workdays, areas, and hours may vary depending on departmental needs.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
The position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record may be required. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by the time of hire.
