Overview
An open, fully funded research assistant position is available in the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's & Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of Texas Health San Antonio (UTHSA). We are looking for a candidate with expertise in clinical research to join a collaborative team of clinicians, sponsors, and research staff conducting state‑of‑the‑art dementia research. The position is part of the NIA‑funded South Texas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and will work closely with investigators to coordinate activities for assigned clinical trials.
Duties include recruitment, informed consent of participants, administration of cognitive assessments, documentation, biological sample processing and shipment, data entry, and quality control review. The role will be heavily embedded in the new Center for Brain Health, serving as a liaison between research and clinical care. The candidate must be self‑motivated, independent, teamwork oriented, and possess excellent communication skills. In addition, the position may require maintaining the security and integrity of UT San Antonio’s infrastructure per Texas EO‑GA‑48.
- Supports the investigative team in the planning, evaluation, implementation, and documentation of clinical trials.
- Maintains research databases; prepares and submits individual study progress reports as needed.
- Actively recruits, pre‑screens, and schedules participants for various industry‑sponsored or investigator‑initiated trials.
- Schedules study visits and ensures appropriate resources are available for successful conduct.
- Obtains informed consent of study participants in compliance with current ICH/GCP and institutional regulations.
- Maintains accurate source documentation of participant visits, interactions, and reports in compliance with current FDA, NIH, and/or institutional guidelines.
- Assists in appropriate record‑keeping in compliance with ICH/GCP as well as applicable reporting to investigators, university offices, study sponsors, and affiliated entities.
- Supports and/or represents the study team during the conduct of routine source document verification by the study sponsor as well as audits and inspections.
- Maintains excellent communication with the investigative team.
- Ensures security and integrity of UT San Antonio infrastructure per Texas EO‑GA‑48.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well independently with research participants, clinicians, and staff with minimal supervision.
- Possess strong skills for multitasking, meeting competing deadlines, prioritizing and supporting the investigator team.
- Self‑motivated and capable of accepting feedback and guidance from colleagues.
- Bachelor’s degree in basic science is required.

- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred.
- Prior experience handling biological samples (blood, urine, saliva, cerebral‑spinal fluid, etc.) is preferred.
