Position Summary:
Graduate Research Assistant for Medicinal Chemistry will assist with culture and metabolic studies of fungi, isolation of metabolites and also assist on the chemical derivatization of those metabolites.
- Prepare, autoclave and store media (agar, growth broth)
- Grow and maintain fungal cultures
- Add compounds to be subjected to biotransformation at the appropriate times
- Isolate and purify metabolites
- Assist with the chemical modification of those metabolites
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- Basic practical knowledge of cell culture and aseptic techniques, or make arrangements to have a faculty/staff mentor to teach/guide him or her through it
- Have at least 6-8 hours available per week to dedicate to the project
- Display commitment and dependability
- Critical thinking and continuous attention to details.
- Willingness to ask questions when something goes wrong or does not make sense.

UIW student enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program.

Work schedule to be determined, based on academic student schedule;
Minimum of 6-8 hours per week.
