Postdoctoral Research Position

Dr. Juli Bai is currently a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Houston (UTHealth Houston). The research team is dedicated to exploring the molecular mechanisms underlying immune regulation and metabolism in conditions such as obesity, diabetes, metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver (MAFL), steatohepatitis (MASH), and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In recent years, their findings have been published in leading journals such as Nature Metabolism, The Journal of Clinical Investigation, Nature Communications, PNAS, and JCI Insight.

Dr. Bai's innovative research in immune metabolism has earned the prestigious Innovative Basic Science Award from the American Diabetes Association, as well as fundings from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other agencies.

The research of Dr. Bai's lab is dedicated to unraveling novel mechanisms underlying the intricate interplay between immune regulation and metabolic diseases. Particularly, our current research is focused on the mitochondrial dysfunction, ER stress, lipid metabolism, secreted proteins, metabolites, immune receptor and cGAS-STING innate immune signaling in the progression of these metabolic disease, with a special focus on liver metabolic dysfunction including MASH and HCC.

By utilizing various tissue-specific transgenic and knockout mouse models and applying cutting-edge strategies such as molecular and cell biology, single-cell sequencing, live-cell confocal microscopy, live-animal two-photon microscopy, and multi-omics approaches, Dr. Bai's lab aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the etiology of metabolic diseases, with the ultimate goal of identifying novel therapeutic targets. The team's work also explores the potential of translational research, particularly with small molecules and metabolites related to MASH and HCC.
