General Responsibilities
Provide archaeological support which may include standard archaeological work assignments such as survey, background research, artifact and records processing, field excavations and monitoring, laboratory processing, and reporting. Assist with the execution of all phases of Terracon Cultural Resources projects. Clean and maintain field and lab equipment and supplies. Assist other Terracon environmental service lines on projects as needed. Adhere to strict safety standards.

- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- Assisting with archaeological fieldwork, such as construction monitoring, surveys, excavations, artifact collection and basic documentation.
- Conduct various archaeological investigations with common archaeological tools and methods under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher.
- Independently perform routine field tasks associated with archaeological investigations of all types (pre-contact, historic, industrial, rural, urban) and phases (survey, evaluation, mitigation) to regulatory agency standards on projects.
- Assist all staff including with other tasks as needed.
- Be able to communicate more detailed information such as soil specifics to Crew Chief or Archaeologist.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior technicians.
- Responsible for conducting archaeological investigations in various locations in Texas, including other states, as assigned. This position requires travel more than 50 percent of the year.
- Responsible for performing other various duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology/Anthropology or related field and 2 years related experience.
- Completion of an archaeological field school from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
- More advanced knowledge of artifact identification, soils, and stratigraphy.
- Familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, Global Positioning Systems, ArcGIS Pro and digital recording tools and platforms for use in the field and office.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to multi-task within flexible/fluid schedules and project needs.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, and walking on uneven surfaces regularly carrying up to 20lbs and occasionally up to 40 lbs. of equipment, and ability to work in extreme (hot/cold) weather conditions.
- Ability to travel for overnight (including multiple days away) work assignments including out of town and out of state.
- Willingness to participate in and support (as needed): routine laboratory tasks including washing and cataloging artifacts, creating inventories, processing records and associated documents; conduct background research including accessing the Texas Archeological Sites Atlas and other on-line information resources; understands and can help complete curation requirements.
- Willingness to participate in and support (as needed) other non-archeological Environmental Planning projects, tasks, and activities as assigned.
- Willingness and ability to help supervise and coordinate field and laboratory crews; contribute to reporting by creating intelligible, technically appropriate written content.
