Job Description:

Overview:

The Archaeological Technician is responsible for conducting field and laboratory tasks in support of archaeological investigations and regulatory compliance. Working under the supervision of a Project Archaeologist, this role assists in survey, excavation, documentation, and artifact processing activities while helping ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

Conduct archaeological field surveys, including shovel testing and site documentation, following established procedures and protocols.

Collect and record GPS data for field observations and site locations.

Clean, label, catalog, and curate artifacts in accordance with lab standards and guidelines.

Assist with the maintenance, inventory, and organization of field and lab equipment.

Support preparation of documentation, reports, and deliverables for cultural resource management compliance.

Collaborate with team members to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all project tasks.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Completion of a university-based archaeological field school.

Minimum of 3–6 months of archaeological field and/or lab experience preferred.

Ability to work outdoors in diverse terrain and weather conditions on a regular basis.

Physical ability to walk, bend, kneel, dig with hand tools, and stand for prolonged periods.

Ability to lift and carry up to 40–50 pounds, including field equipment, soil samples, or artifact containers.

Willingness and ability to travel for field assignments as needed.
