Research Technician III

Leidos has an immediate need for a Research Technician III to support the Cellular and Immune Based Adjuncts Department at the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) in San Antonio TX. NAMRU-SA serves as one of the leading research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy and conducts gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense (DoD) personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting laboratory-based research applying the latest scientific knowledge towards the solution of a broad range of theoretical and practical problems in the areas of trauma, hemorrhage and resuscitation, immunomodulation, directed health effects, and craniofacial health and trauma
  • Follow SOPs to conduct standard cellular assays using cellular platforms
  • Manage cell/tissue culture lines
  • Compiles and uses software to analyze data; identifies technical discrepancies in results and suggests protocol adjustments
  • Develops and validates new experimental methods
  • Designs experimental set ups; sets up, operates, and calibrates laboratory equipment in accordance with research protocols
  • Troubleshoots and solves experimental issues such as hardware and/or methodology failures
  • Implements and maintains research files; maintains data and records securely, including the use of an assigned laboratory notebook
  • Leads effort to maintain a clean and operational lab space
  • Manage laboratory safety documentation and processes
  • Assists in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies for research
  • Create and maintain supplies and sample inventory logs; perform laboratory inventory assessments
  • Reports on status of research activities
  • Routes administrative paperwork related to scientific products
  • May assist with writing and editing material for publication and presentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus five years' related research experience, or master's degree with equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to independently calibrate and troubleshoot advanced instrumentation
  • Knowledgeable in biosafety regulations and compliance
  • Prior experience in a military medical laboratory is preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required life-support certifications (AHA BLS, Healthcare Provider Course, or American Red Cross CPR; web-based courses not accepted)
  • Willingness to complete annual occupational health exams to maintain facility access clearance
  • Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.
  • The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level.
