Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Know and actively demonstrate our Company Mission Statement and Core Values daily.
  • Maintain uniform standards as detailed in the Employee Manual for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, using our Guest Services script based on division. For Specs locations: offer the 5% discount, ask for the Specs Key, call the guest by name if possible, offer additional items, offer the opportunity to donate to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add‑on items, including the charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so that the accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction; never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
  • If necessary, check acceptable identification, use 36 sign‑in, to ensure the legal sale; use best practices and always be professional when checking IDs.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise. Use business‑mind set bagging when appropriate.
  • Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat and do not overstock counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, making sure all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to manage stress in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Stand for most of shift, bend and walk occasionally; use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools. Push and/or pull 50‑100 pounds or more occasionally. Communicate with and understand team members and guests.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Perform other projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • Clean the restroom as required.
  • Attendance and timeliness are required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; cashiering experience preferred but not required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with coworkers and guests.
  • Bilingual skills in any language are a plus.
  • Basic mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate discounts and percentages.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and self‑starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including Fridays and Saturdays, and must be available for 80% or more of all shifts.
  • Valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit;
    Food Handlers Permit may be required.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; push or pull up to 100 pounds occasionally. Good vision and ability to adjust focus.
