The role involves providing extraordinary shopping experiences to guests and delivering exceptional service at checkout.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Know and actively demonstrate our Company Mission Statement and Core Values daily.
  • Maintain uniform standard as detailed in the Employee Manual for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smile and helpful demeanor, using the Guest Services script based on the division served. For Specs locations: offer the 5% discount, ask for the Specs Key, call the guest by name if possible, offer additional items, offer the opportunity to give to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add‑on items, including the charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so that the accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction. Never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
  • If necessary, check acceptable identification, use 36 sign‑in, to ensure a legal sale. Use best practices and always be professional when checking IDs.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest. Do not simply hand a wad of bills and change.
  • Bag or box merchandise. Use bags only when necessary and double bag only when asked by the guest for multiple bottle orders. Use box or bottle protectors appropriately.
  • Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on a daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat, and avoid overstocking the counter with merchandise.
  • Count down the drawer at end of shift and prepare the final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • May resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, ensuring all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess strong time‑management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Manage stress in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Stand for most of the shift, bend and walk occasionally. Use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools. Push and/or pull 50–100 pounds or more occasionally. Communicate with and understand team members and guests.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Other projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • Clean the restroom as needed.
  • Attendance and timeliness are required.
  • Education and Experience
    • Preferred: cashiering experience.
    • Required:

      high school diploma or GED; relevant experience may substitute.
    Language Skills

    Read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos. Communicate with and understand coworkers and guests. Bilingual skills are a plus.

    Mathematical Skills

    Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Calculate discounts and percentages.
