Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Know and actively demonstrate the Company Mission Statement and Core Values daily.
  • Maintain uniform standards as detailed in the Employee Manual for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor using the Guest Services script appropriate for the division. For Specs locations: offer the 5% discount, ask for the Specs Key, call the guest by name (if possible), offer additional items, present the charity of the month opportunity, and thank the guest for their business.
  • Operate the cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add‑on items, including the charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so that the accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Politely ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction. Never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
  • Check acceptable identification, use 36 sign‑in, to ensure legal sale and maintain professionalism when checking IDs.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise. Use approach‑minded bag usage: double bag only when asked by the guest for multiple bottle orders, otherwise use boxes.
  • Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat and do not overstock the counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, ensuring all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time‑management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to manage stress in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Stand for most of shift, bend and walk occasionally; use arms, hands, and fingers to reach, handle, and lift. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools. Push and/or pull 50‑100 pounds or more occasionally. Communicate with and understand team members and guests. See product and payment methods.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Other projects and tasks assigned by management. (May include restroom cleaning).

  • Education or Experience
    • Prefer cashiering experience; willing to learn is acceptable.
    • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; experience can substitute.
    Language Skills
    • Read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos.
    • Communicate effectively with coworkers and guests. Bilingual skills are a plus.
    Mathematical Skills
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
    • Calculate discounts and percentages accurately.
    • Use a calculator when needed.
