A Brief OverviewThe Product Line Sales Specialist generates and secures new sales within a specific product line to increase the profitability of the company. Maintains existing accounts while generating new business in product line specialty through cold calls and following leads.
What You Will Do- Develop and assist sales managers in establishing short and long‑term growth plans and targets for the specialty product line.
- Research and communicate sales forecast for the product line and work with the Sales Manager to set performance goals accordingly.
- Assist the company’s Sales and Product Line Manager team in developing a timeline for the rollout of product lines to the market.
- Identify areas of opportunity for customer and product line expansion.
- Develop new customer accounts through cold calls, working potential customer lists, contacting subcontractors in the area, and contacting companies who previously rejected proposals.
- Act as the key sales contact for customers offering and selling a full breadth of the product line through inside support at the company’s location(s).
- Partner with Inside Sales Support to coordinate quoting, orders, deliveries, etc. with the Outside Sales Representative.
- Represent oneself as the product line specialist where there is overlap with existing outside sales talent.
- Ensure that outside sales professionals retain ownership of their accounts and will be compensated for product line business that may be secured through the Product Line Specialist’s leadership.
- Mentor outside sales representatives on new product line offerings.
- Encourage customers to work with their outside reps for products other than the special product.
- Work with the Product Line Manager to monitor competitor activities and products to suggest new products into the market.
- Maintain positive relations with manufacturer field personnel.
- Attend and participate in all company‑sponsored training programs as required.
- Represent the company at trade association meetings to promote business and develop relationships as required.
- Collaborate with Product Line Manager and Purchasing Manager to assist in pricing special orders with the local sales team.
- Advise the company and clients immediately of price changes from the manufacturer.
- Communicate price levels for these customers with the inside sales roofing specialists to ensure they are not receiving different pricing from the location or outside sales representatives.
- Prepare, coordinate, and communicate price quotations, terms of sales, delivery dates, and service obligations to customers/contractors.
- Resolve customer complaints and problems.
- Assist in the collection of accounts receivable.
- Prepare and input orders as necessary.
- Research and order special products as necessary.
- Estimate materials from blueprints supplied by customer/contractor.
- Adhere to Conflict of Interest or Non‑Compete agreements if in place.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all company policies and standards.
- Adhere to the company’s commitment to workplace safety.
- Participate in and complete assigned trainings.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s degree in a related industry preferred.
- Three years of sales experience in building materials or a related industry required.
- Two years of sales experience in a specific product line required.
- Ability to read, interpret, and estimate from blueprints; ability to use a calculator and computer.
- Ability to negotiate prices and contractual agreements.
- Excellent communication skills and commitment to customer service.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance required.
- Ability to travel 75% of the time and perform according to the requirements of the position.
