About Big Sun Community Solar
Big Sun Community Solar was selected by CPS Energy to bring community solar to its service territory. Unlike rooftop solar, participants don't need to own a roof or install anything at their home or business. Instead, they purchase PV modules in a shared solar array and receive credits on their electric bill for the power their modules produce. Participants own their modules outright.
Community solar opens the door to solar ownership for renters, homeowners with shaded or unsuitable roofs, multifamily residents, HOAs, and small businesses and nonprofits who want the financial and environmental benefits of solar without a rooftop installation.
Position Summary
This role exists to turn interest in Big Sun Community Solar into actual participants, and to make sure the program delivers on what it promises once someone joins. You'll be the primary point of contact for people considering the program: answering questions, explaining how it works, and helping them through the buying process. You'll also be the person on the ground making sure nothing falls through the cracks, spotting problems early, and keeping leadership in the loop so the program can adjust fast when something isn't working.
This is part sales, part program delivery. You need the instincts to help someone say yes, and the follow‑through to make sure that yes turns into a satisfied owner.
In this role, you're not just representing Big Sun, you're representing CPS Energy and its customers. CPS Energy chose us to bring this program to their service territory, and the way we treat every person who reaches out, whether they join or not, reflects directly on that relationship. Strong service isn't a nice‑to‑have here, it's essential to the program's success and to earning the trust CPS Energy placed in us.
You are a team player. If the program wins, you win. We are not looking for a typical, coin‑operated sales person. We are also not looking for high pressure sales tactics. You are informed, you build trust, and you can lead people to make the right decision for themselves.
What You Bring
Required
- Sales background, ideally in residential solar or another high‑consideration, in‑person or in‑home sales environment. Comfortable both working a room at an event and working the phone, chat, and email queue.
- A genuine belief in clean energy, and the ability to talk about it with whoever's in front of you without sounding like a script.
- Follow‑up discipline. You close the loop with people instead of letting a lead go cold.
- Comfortable explaining financial and technical concepts (bill credits, payment structure, financing options) in plain language to a wide range of people.
- Self‑starter who can manage in‑person events and their own schedule without heavy oversight.
- Genuinely comfortable moving fast across multiple platforms day to day: a CRM (e.g. Hub Spot), email, a VoIP phone system, online scheduling tools, e‑signature platforms (e.g. Docu Sign), Google Drive, and email marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp). This role moves quickly, and someone who struggles with everyday tech will struggle to keep up.
- Organized by habit, not just when someone's checking. Keeps notes, follow‑ups, and next steps straight without things slipping through the cracks.
Preferred
- Prior experience in residential rooftop solar sales, especially in the San Antonio market.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), a plus given the San Antonio market.
- Knowledge of regional utility billing structures and community‑based renewable energy programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate new participant sign‑ups by prospecting leads through events, referrals, and outreach.
- Clearly explain the benefits, cost savings, and terms of the community solar program to prospective participants.
- Guide prospective participants through the complete enrollment process, from first contact to signed agreement.
- Achieve or surpass established monthly and quarterly benchmarks for community solar enrollment volume.
- Maintain meticulous documentation of all prospecting efforts and conversion metrics within the CRM.
- Resolve inquiries with integrity, coordinating with leadership on the resolution of more complex participant issues.
