Position: Airport Security Officer I

Job Summary

Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing patrol and security work at a City facility or related area. Exercises no supervision.

6:00 a.m.

- 4:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

- 12:30 a.m.; 10 hour shift with 3 days off

Essential Job Functions
  • Patrols assigned areas to eliminate or report fire hazards, deter thefts, vandals, or violence.
  • Takes necessary action to detain or prevent entry by unauthorized persons.
  • Checks buildings, facilities and equipment fixtures and as necessary reports on conditions by often touring, moving about and observing.
  • Monitors and maintains station at entry/exit point to City activities.
  • Provides information and directions to customers and the general public.
  • Maintains activity logs using office equipment and communicates or dispatches through the use of a two‑way radio.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  • One (1) year experience as a Security Guard or security related experience.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
  • Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment clearance upon employment.
  • Must maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport at all times.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in an airport or other regulated environment with responsibility for access control, badge verification, perimeter security, or compliance enforcement strongly preferred.
  • Experience directing traffic in high‑volume environments such as airports, construction zones, special events, or public safety settings. Familiarity with traffic flow management, emergency vehicle coordination, and use of cones, barricades, and hand signals preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, assertive directions while maintaining professionalism.
  • Ability to de‑escalate tense situations, manage high‑stress interactions, and deliver strong customer service while enforcing security procedures.
Applicant Information
  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full‑time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full‑time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
